Petersburg Literature Festival

Diane and I were in the Book Festival in Petersburg, Virginia, on Saturday. We had a great time and met some interesting people. One lady came by the author tent and sat with us. She lived across the street and her grandfather fought in the Civil War. She offered us some sweet tea if we came by. Then we read a passage from Micah's Child. We read the part where Catherine is struggling with jumping off the dive boat into the waters of Roatan. It was the first time we had read that part of the book out loud and it went well. Then we signed a few books as the wind picked up a few brochures and tossed them across the grass of the park. The festival is geared toward increasing the readers of Petersburg, both adult and kids. I hope we helped.

Mad Anthony Writers Conference

Diane and I spoke in Hamilton, Ohio, at their extension campus of Miami of Ohio. We had to speak at 8 in the morning, I had to make sure I didnt yawn in the middle of our talk. We spoke on screenwriting again which is kind of cool since we are writers first. But everyone likes the movie stuff so we dont mind. It was a great weekend overall. We played golf and I almost had a hole in one and Diane beat me on the last hole. She is much better but has to play in a tourney with her boss soon. Should be interesting. And her dog Murhpy is so much fun. Also, we had a few other book clubs say they are reading the book. It has many a book club recommendation. Some of them were not attentive but most were fine. I don't think they had ever had an author talk to them so they were hesitant on questions. Too bad, because so many think that they have to know the one right answer, even in literature.

Blue Ridge Writer's Conference

Diane and I spoke this weekend about screenwriting and couldn't have had a better time. The people were great, the mountains were spectacular and the overall atmosphere was so pleasant. Friday night we went out with the keynote speaker, Joshilyn Jackson. She was quite interesting and had many good things to say. The most important was that we should, as writers, keep working on making our work great and then hope to get lucky and have the right person on the right day read our work when it fits with what they need. Upcoming events

Hey, the book signing in Charlotte got postponed. We will be up there in May or June. Storms came through Atlanta last night and more are on the way today. Fun. On March 29, we will speaking at the Blue Ridge Writers conference. Still no word on The Fat Boy Chronicles yet, still waiting on a publisher. But we FINISHED Cry of the Quetzal!!!! Book Signings for Micah's Child

Hey, I will be at the Mall of Georgia Borders signing books this weekend, December 1 from 1 to 4PM. Next weekend, December 8 at the Kennesaw Borders and on December 16 at the Borders in John's Creek. These are all in Atlanta. Other than that, I went metal detecting last weekend and found a couple of bullets from the Civil War along with a 1902 Indian Head penny. Pretty cool. Author of Year Awards

Diane and I have been nominated for Georgia Author of the Year for Micah's Child. The ceremony is June 2 so we will keep our fingers crossed. I think we have a good chance but who knows. Diane is on the NC coast watching the storms and I am in beautiful weather back in Atlanta. We are working on a new screenplay but more on that later. It could prove to be very nice for us. Summer is almost here and I would love to finish up the Quaker book and get the final touches done on the scripts, especially the Treasure of the Four Lions one. We spoke at the Mad Anthony Writer's Conference a couple of weekends ago; it was great and we had pretty big crowds. It was on the Cincinnati campus of Miami of Ohio. Can't wait for next year, it's always a good time and the people are very nice. The other picture is at Duck, NC, just hanging out.

Brandon Barnes and Noble

I spoke to the readers group at the Barnes and Noble in Brandon, Florida this past Wednesday. They were ready with thier questions and I had to really keep my wits about me in answering. I had a great time and the time flew by. One thing that was new for a book group was that they went around the circle and each person had to say something positive about the book. Most like Catherine's determination to survive her trauam, some enjoyed the diving and other the southerness. It was tricky defending some questions about Cat and her riding around with Neil and the fishman from Kroger. I said that the women in the neighborhood were plenty smart but thier husbands wanted them to fill a role and not be smart or have an opinion about the world, etc. Idle minds is the devils playground. So, they fill their time with gossip, wine and flirting. Anyway, the day was exciting and they all were very gracious. I enjoyed it immensely. If we could get many other groups to be as thrilled about having the author there, Micah's Child could take off.

Latest News

I gave a talk today at a local school for their career day. The fellow I was paired with was Greg Lang, and his mother was Diane Lang, the same name as my co-author. Strange. Anyway, the talk went well and I learned a bunch from Lang.

Last week, my  Diane and I heard from an agent in New York. She loved the Fat Boy book and is sending a contract. Yippeeeee. I think we have to do some editing but that will be easy. I hope.

Tomorrow I will do the mike at the state playoff game at our school. Fun stuff.

The studio starts shooting the trailer next month for the civil war treasure hunting movie. We will keep everyone in the loop.
