Shark Teeth, Mammoth Tusks, Artifacts at Mimosa Elementary

 I was fortunate enough to have been invited by Nancy Bermel, a teacher at Mimosa Elementary in Roswell, GA, to speak at her school. I took fossils and artifacts from around the South and discussed them with a room full of 3rd graders. The kids were very well behaved and quite inquisitive. When I showed them the giant shark teeth, their eyes got big and hands shot up in the air to ask a question. I had a great time and I think some of the students might be a little more informed about history in their own backyard.

A couple of weeks ago, I went to one of the many dried up creek beds here in the South to look for points. Actually, I was looking for driftwood and saw some flint nearby. I took these pictures of the small bird points while they were still in the sand.

Micah's Child book club talk

Last week, I spoke to a group of about a dozen women in Alpharetta. It was a great bunch and the best thing, besides their comments and questions, was that all of them had read the book. We chatted about Cat and Micah until 10:30. And, they wanted to know all about Nellie and David and how Diane and I write together while living in two different cities. There was wine and cheese and desserts; it was just a fun time. I had forgotten how inspiring it is to talk to a group about our words.
